The Blue Water Hunter's 12th Anniversary Extravaganza!

All entries of all levels and all ages welcome from Hawaii and around the world. Come join us for our Twelve Year Anniversary! The Blue Water Hunter opened its doors in November of 1997 and we would like to show our appreciation to all our customers from around the world. So join us on Saturday, November 7, 2009.

Rules, Regulations and Registration

Pre-Registration

Please register on or before October 24. Registration after October 24 may result in a shortage of tournament shirts, so please register early! Click the link below to download and/or print the registration form. Entry fee is $50.00 per team.

Boundaries

South Point Boat Launch Ramp to North Kohala Light House.

Divisions:

Age 13-17: Three prong or speargun. Chaperon (an able, responsible adult there for the sole responsibility of managing the safety of the diver) required.

Age 18+: Three prong or speargun.

Time and Location

A mandatory meeting on Saturday, November 7, 2009 of ALL team members at 6:30 am at the Blue Water Hunter parking lot. We will cover last minute changes, registration, questions etc. We will disperse promptly at 7:00 am. and reconvene at 3:30 pm. at the Blue Water Hunter parking lot. If you’re late to the morning meeting or afternoon check-in, you are disqualified from this event.

Methods of Transportation for Diving

Swim from shore.

Safety Requirements

MANDATORY two people/divers per team. Each diver must have their own dive float with diver down flag and dive knife.

Teams

A team must consist of two (2) people. No more. No less. No exceptions.

Prizes

Prizes will be given for the Individual Largest Fish, Team Total Aggregate Weight and Individual Largest He'e categories. The Grand Cash Prize will be given to the winning TEAM with the Largest fish regardless of age division. Side bets are welcome (largest Uku, largest Moana Kali, largest Mu, etc.)

Point System

One point per fish plus one point per pound up to a maximum of 20+1 pounds/points per fish. Example #1 – 10 lb. Kumu (10+1) = 11 Points. Example #2 – 200 lb. Ulua (20+1) = 21 Points. Example #3 – 10 lb Kumu + 200 lb. Ulua = 32 Points

Six (6) fish per diver total. Two (2) fish per species - per diver max.

Tournament Ethics and Protocol

Band Powered Spearguns only. Use a back-up shot if necessary or dispatch the fish with your dive knife. All fish must be healthy, uninjured and untethered before spearing. Palu (chum) a speared fish from the day of the event is allowed. Flashers are allowed.

Please be courteous to your teammates, other spearfishing competitors and anyone in your area. Do not expect “special favors” from anyone because “you are in a tournament.” Do not crowd an area. Please show by example how spearfisher men and women take care of the environment, each other and those around them. Always remember, no fish is worth your life so live to dive another day.
